GETTING TO MILOS
A
small hotel at the foot of the Acropolis
For
those who like to explore!
If, during the course of your
holiday you have a night's stay
in Athens do not check into an
hotel near the remote and noisy airport, take a taxi into the city as I did, and
discover the "Acropolis View" hotel. Its name justifies its
location, in fact it is beneath the Acropolis some 300m to the south. The hotel
is simple, air-conditioned and very quiet, standing back from the road. It is a
bit hard to find so it is best to mark its address on a map and show it to the
taxi driver. From the hotel you are 5 minutes from the entrance to the Acropolis
mount and only a 15 minute stroll to the old town of 'PLAKA' with its vibrant
atmosphere. Around the hotel there are many good tavernas to suit any
gastronomes. The hotel staff will give you some recommended adresses.
The
Acropolis View has 5 or 6 floors and many rooms have a view facing the
Acropolis. The prices are, in my opinion, very reasonable considering the
location, slightly more expensive than an hotel in Piraeus such as the Anita/Argos.
But then there are the opportunities for sightseeing, music events (at the
Acropolis open-air arena), shopping and eating etc.! A buffet style continental
breakfast is included in the price. Should your visit fall in the high season it
is highly recommended to book in advance by fax. Road journeys to and from the
new airport at Spata are somewhat slow until the new motorway is opened so allow
about 45 minutes for a taxi journey. The
harbour at Piraeus is about 30 minutes by taxi.
